I have never received more compliments on a sweatpant outfit than the number I received on a quick coffee run in the West Village recently. Now, I’m the kind of person who will take a few extra steps to get the best thing in the neighborhood, so passing by maybe three other coffee shops, I made my way to my favorite place. On this short walk around the block, I believe I ended up tallying four or five compliments. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that these compliments were unrelated to my sweatpants. They were all about the faux-fur coat I was wearing.

When it comes to getting dressed up in the evening or making my casual looks feel more "fashion,” adding a faux-fur coat on top has never failed me. Keep in mind, a key word here is "faux.” I’m currently not supporting any unethical practices, and I hope that my favorite fashion designers will all follow suit just like Burberry and Stella McCartney. In the meantime, any sort of confusion about whether or not my coat is real will not stop me from wearing it and buying more. Below, find 29 coats that I have my eye on.

Sierra Mayhew was always destined to work in fashion, but she didn't know it at first. Growing up with no choice but to wear a rotation of school uniforms and activewear, her love for fashion really blossomed when she moved away for college and was able to finally define her very own personal style. Shortly thereafter, she interned at Elle magazine and instantly knew that editorial was for her. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, she worked for ShopBazaar, contributing regularly to Bazaar.com, and finally made her way to Who What Wear, where she is an associate editor. When she’s not working, you can catch her always trying to catch a flight, trying the latest fitness craze in New York City, or exploring luxury vintage boutiques.

We're already preparing.
